Republicans Lobby Against EPA Regulations

August 31, 2017 by The Staff

Hurricane Harvey ignited several explosions in a chemical plan near Crosby, Texas.

The French company that says its Houston-area chemical plant is spewing “noxious” smoke and may explode successfully pressed federal regulators to delay new regulations designed to improve safety procedures at chemical plants, according to federal records reviewed by International Business Times. The rules, which were set to go into effect this year, were halted by the Trump administration after a furious lobbying campaign by plant owner Arkema and its affiliated trade association, the American Chemistry Council, which represents a chemical industry that has poured tens of millions of dollars into federal elections. [1]

Governor Greg Abbott is not without blame.

Arkema has six production plants in Texas and has received more than $8.7 million worth of taxpayer subsidies from the state. Arkema’s Crosby plant — which OSHA fined more than $90,000 for ten “serious” violations earlier this year and has spewed smoke in Crosby — appears to be covered under the existing EPA rules because of the kinds of chemicals it uses. While Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott has given chemical companies legal cover to hide the locations of their EPA-regulated chemicals, the Associated Press reports that the imperiled Arkema facility houses large amounts of toxic sulfur dioxide and flammable methylpropen, which required Arkema to submit a risk management plan to the agency — and which would have subjected the company to the strengthened safety rules. GOP Plan Is Out – Seniors and the Poor and Now At Risk

March 7, 2017 by The Staff

What You Will Lose

Chicago Tribune, “Elements of the proposal, which was kept under lock and key last week — have been dribbling out for a few days. The text of the bill encompassing the GOP plan validates much of that reporting. On the whole, however, it’s a nastier, more consumer-unfriendly proposal than even close followers could have expected.”[1]

Caregivers will lack insurance

The Hill, “Among America’s working poor are a vast workforce of paid caregivers—nearly 5 million nursing assistants, home health aides, and personal care aides who provide daily supports to older Americans and people living with disabilities. These workers assist with bathing, dressing, mobility, and meal preparation, among other important activities. The work, which is mostly done by women and people of color, is physically and emotionally demanding, yet not highly valued in our economy. Many of these workers live on the edge of poverty, with annual earnings averaging $16,500. For many of these low-wage workers, access to health care coverage was an ongoing struggle—until the Affordable Care Act (ACA).”[2]

Many States will be Forced To Stop Health Coverage for Thousands

Los Angeles Times, “The GOP alternative would undo the requirement that everyone have insurance and change how subsidies are offered through the state’s insurance marketplace, Covered California. But the biggest impact would likely be on the state’s Medicaid program, known as Medi-Cal, which provides coverage to more than a third of California’s residents.”[3]

Slams Women the Most

Thousands of people, especially women, will lose their healthcare because of defunding of Planned Parenthood.[1]

Personal and employer mandates are gone. [1]

Healthcare will vary by state, leaving the poor, seniors and the sick at risk if they travel.[1]

The Rich Will Become Richer

NBC News, “House Republicans have produced real legislation to replace Barack Obama’s 2010 health-care law. That’s the good news for them — and it eliminates a long-standing Democratic talking point that the GOP hasn’t offered a real alternative to the law. The bad news for them is that their bill faces four obstacles, the biggest of which divide conservative and more moderate Republicans.”[4]

Obamacare’s taxes are repealed.  The rich have now just become very rich or richer.[1]

OMG! House Republicans Vote to Close the Independent Ethics Office

January 3, 2017 by The Staff Leave a Comment

It’s like the police investigating the police?  What are the republicans trying to cover up?  Did the “swamp” just get more evil?  No wonder that the ordinary citizen thinks so low of the congress.

Contact your elected officials at usa.gov.

New York Times, “House Republicans, overriding their top leaders, voted on Monday to significantly curtail the power of an independent ethics office set up in 2008 in the aftermath of corruption scandals that sent three members of Congress to jail. The move to effectively kill the Office of Congressional Ethics was not made public until late Monday, when Representative Robert W. Goodlatte, Republican of Virginia and chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, announced that the House Republican Conference had approved the change. There was no advance notice or debate on the measure.”[1]

Shame on Bob Goodlatte’s (R-VA) proposal.  Virginia, how did you let this happen?

Politico, “In one of their first moves of the new Congress, House Republicans have voted to gut their own independent ethics watchdog — a huge blow to cheerleaders of congressional oversight and one that dismantles major reforms adopted after the Jack Abramoff scandal.”[2]

Donald Trump is open to using nuclear weapons

August 3, 2016 by The Staff Leave a Comment

Donald Trump is open to using nuclear weapons. Put his erratic temperament and unfamiliarity with the basic responsibilities of American security and global leadership at the top of the list of reasons he is “woefully unprepared” to be president.

Republicans Made Donald Trump Successful

The Republican PartyTRANSCRIPT
March 2, 2016

TRUMP: This has been an amazing evening.

You have to be born in the country. There’s no birth certificate, only a certificate of live birth, which is a different thing and a much much lower standard.

ROMNEY: Being in Donald Trump’s magnificent hotel and having his endorsement is a delight.

TRUMP: When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.

CRUZ: I liked Donald Trump. He’s bold, he’s brash. I salute Donald Trump for focusing on the need to address immigration.

TRUMP: You know, you could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever.

REINCE PRIEBUS: I think it’s a net positive for everybody and I also think it’s an indicator that a lot of people are just sick and tired of Washington. I think Donald Trump’s tapped into that.

TRUMP: Negotiating with Japan, Negotiation with China. When these people walk in the room they don’t say, ‘Oh hello, how’s the weather? It’s beautiful outside.’ They say, ‘We want deal!’

GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: Mr. Trump told me yesterday he’d support you over Hillary Clinton if you get the nomination. Would you support him?

JEB BUSH: Yea, ‘I would, of course.’We need to be unified.

TRUMP: Donald J Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.

CRUZ: I understand why Donald made that proposal.

PRIEBUS: Clearly he’s the frontrunner. he’s saying things that a lot of people agree with.

CHRIS CUOMO: Trump sweeping 7 states, now vowing to unite the Republican party.
