Thank Goodness There are Some Sane Legislators

September 5, 2017 by The Staff

Let’s hope they out number those that would like to destroy the lives of many of our future citizens.

Ruben Gallego writes:

Donald Trump just made one of his most misguided, callous, and cruel decisions by ending DACA.

These kids are Americans, and Trump is knowingly inflicting pain on 800,000 of them just to indulge the most hateful elements of our society.

But this isn’t a done deal yet. I just have filed an amendment to the House GOP appropriations bill to block the deportation of these undocumented young peopleI know dozens of Dreamers both in Phoenix and across the country. They’ve served as interns in my office and knocked doors for my campaign. These are friends, some I consider family.

Dreamers are as American as anyone. Their work hard, get educations and contribute to their communities.I’m never going to stop fighting for these folks, and I need you with me.

Tom O’Halleran writes:

Over the past eight months, I have had the chance to meet with many young Arizona DREAMers who have been given the chance to pursue the American Dream due, in part, to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. These hardworking men and women have had the opportunity to receive a college education, find meaningful jobs, and most importantly, give back to the country they call home.

President Trump’s decision to end DACA is troubling, and it will do real harm to countless families who will be torn apart. It is callous and detrimental to America’s future.

I am disappointed that the President is unable to see the good that this program has done for the lives of these young people and our economy.

Now more than ever, Congress must act. I am ready to work alongside my Republican and Democratic colleagues to protect DREAMers and pass bipartisan, comprehensive immigration reform. [1]

Arizona Democratic Party:

Donald Trump’s decision to end DACA is a deeply personal and upsetting one for us.

Not only are Dreamers our neighbors, friends and family members — they’re also play integral roles for our party here in Arizona.

Some of our best organizers and brightest young leaders are Dreamers. The idea that these folks, these Americans, now have to live in fear of deportation is devastating. Today was the culmination of a shocking failure in leadership.

Republicans in Washington have repeatedly blocked the DREAM Act from becoming law. And here in Arizona, Governor Doug Ducey and Attorney General Mark Brnovich have stood by while Republicans chipped away at protections these young people should be entitled to in the country they call home.

Now, 800,000 Americans are being threatened for no good reason. This is unconscionable.

“45” Dismisses DACA And Thumbs His Nose at the Dreamers

September 5, 2017 by The Staff

Trump Has No “Heart”

After assuring young undocumented immigrants that they “shouldn’t be very worried,” President Donald Trump has made a cruel decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. DACA provides young people who came to the United States as children temporary protection from deportation and the ability to work and pursue an education. [1]

WATCH: Republicans in Congress love to praise DREAMers. Will they #DefendDACA when Trump threatens it? pic.twitter.com/bCQiHhIQdy

— CAP Action (@CAPAction) August 28, 2017

Nancy Pelosi writes:

I’m speechless.

President Trump just tore apart another piece of President Obama’s legacy.

He just ended DACA and is leaving it up to Congressional Republicans to find a permanent solution in just six months — threatening the future of 8OO,OOO DREAMers.

It’s heartless.

We cannot let President Trump destroy the lives of thousands of immigrant children just to attack President Obama’s legacy.

“45” Lost By 3 Million Votes – Elected By Russia

September 4, 2017 by The Staff

The Independent writes:

Donald Trump will be officially sworn in as President of the United States today, having gained nearly three million fewer votes than his opponent.

The margin of 2.86 million ballots was the biggest popular vote disparity in US history for a candidate who has gone on to become President, significantly greater than the 544,000-vote gap between George W Bush and Al Gore in 2000. [1]

Republicans Lobby Against EPA Regulations

August 31, 2017 by The Staff

Hurricane Harvey ignited several explosions in a chemical plan near Crosby, Texas.

The French company that says its Houston-area chemical plant is spewing “noxious” smoke and may explode successfully pressed federal regulators to delay new regulations designed to improve safety procedures at chemical plants, according to federal records reviewed by International Business Times. The rules, which were set to go into effect this year, were halted by the Trump administration after a furious lobbying campaign by plant owner Arkema and its affiliated trade association, the American Chemistry Council, which represents a chemical industry that has poured tens of millions of dollars into federal elections. [1]

Governor Greg Abbott is not without blame.

Arkema has six production plants in Texas and has received more than $8.7 million worth of taxpayer subsidies from the state. Arkema’s Crosby plant — which OSHA fined more than $90,000 for ten “serious” violations earlier this year and has spewed smoke in Crosby — appears to be covered under the existing EPA rules because of the kinds of chemicals it uses. While Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott has given chemical companies legal cover to hide the locations of their EPA-regulated chemicals, the Associated Press reports that the imperiled Arkema facility houses large amounts of toxic sulfur dioxide and flammable methylpropen, which required Arkema to submit a risk management plan to the agency — and which would have subjected the company to the strengthened safety rules. The Two Faces of “45” – Your Bigotry is Showing

August 30, 2017 by The Staff

This is what “45” said about President Obama in October 2012.  So what did “45” do?  He stands in the rain, talking about crowd size, waving a Texan state flag.  Hypocrite and sanctimonious person.

Trump Critizing Obama

The Hill reports:

President Trump praised the size of a crowd gathered Tuesday to see him as he visits Corpus Christi, Texas, in the aftermath Tropical Storm Harvey.

“What a crowd, what a turnout,” Trump said to a crowd of several hundred people surrounding a fire station, according to a White House pool report. …

… Trump received cheers from some in the crowd as he concluded his speech by holding up the Texas flag, but some in the crowd carried banners criticizing Trump.

“Liar, cheat, racist,” one banner read. Another bashed him for his recent pardon of former Maricopa County, Ariz., Sheriff Joe Arpaio, saying, “You pardoned Joe, what about Jose?” — a reference to the president’s hardline stance on immigration .

“45” Discriminates Against Transgender

August 29, 2017 by The Staff

The nation is becoming more divided under “45”

The National Law Journal…

Civil rights groups with help from two big law firms filed two lawsuits Monday against President Donald Trump’s ban on transgender people serving in the military.

Trump signed a memorandum Aug. 25 that officially codified the ban and provided implementation guidance to the Defense Department. In Seattle, Lambda Legal teamed up with Kirkland & Ellis to file a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, while a group from Covington & Burling joined forces with the American Civil Liberties Union to bring a challenge in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.

Several LGBT and civil rights groups promised legal action when Trump announced the ban in a tweet last month. [1]

The Hypocracy of “45’s” Travel Expenses

August 28, 2017 by The Staff

Newsweek writes…

Air Force records obtained by the conservative group Judicial Watch show that just the flights for two trips to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida cost more than $1.2 million.

Through his first 100 days, Trump spent one-quarter of his time in Florida, costing taxpayers some $7 million, according to Judicial Watch. Exact details of Trump’s total travel costs remain somewhat murky until official documents trickle out, but prior rough estimates suggested that in just a few months Trump may have cost taxpayers about one-third of what President Barack Obama cost through eight years in office. [1]

And “45” complains about President Obama in a strange tweet.

Trump Travel Expenses

CNN writes…

Donald Trump’s travel to his private club in Florida has cost over an estimated $20 million in his first 80 days as president, putting the president on pace in his first year of office to surpass former President Barack Obama’s spending on travel for his entire eight years. [2]

“45” Pardons Joe Arpaio

August 26, 2017 by The Staff

Cover from recent Jewish magazine – August 23, 2017

“45” has changed the Pardoning process for years to come. [1]

  1. Presidents will now use Pardoning for political purposes
  2. Presidents will now undermine judicial authority
  3. The President will now force more cities to become sanctuary cities to protect the Latino community especially when it involves local crime.
  4. Latino voter turnout will increase

Ruben Gallego, US Congress, writes:

This was a cowardly act to appease the same racists who applauded Trump for defending Neo-Nazis after Charlottesville and for threatening to shutdown the federal government to build a wasteful and pointless border wall.

I’ve been fighting Arpaio for years. He’s the worst of the worst.

For those who don’t know him, here are a few facts:

1. He illegally targeted and harassed Latinos with raids designed to terrorize a community

2. He refused to investigate more than 400 sex crimes, some against children

3. He ran a prison that he described as a “concentration camp”

4. He spent state time and resources investigating President Obama’s birth certificate

5. He once staged an assassination attempt against himself so that he could get more TV coverage

6. After a federal judge confirmed that he had been illegally profiling Latinos, Arpaio hired a private investigator to dig into the life of both that judge and his wife

And you know what’s truly crazy? None of those things are what Arpaio was finally convicted for!!!

The law finally caught up with Arpaio after he lied to a federal judge and disobeyed an order from that judge — that’s how he was convicted of contempt.

I’m angry about this. I’m sad about this. And I’m fearful of what this could mean for the future.

Tom O’Halleran, US Congress writes:
This is more than just Trump giving his campaign supporter a pass, he’s acting on his anti-immigrant agenda.
Arpaio ran a jail that he proudly described as a “concentration camp.” He was found guilty of contempt of court, because he ignored a court order and continued to racially profile latinos. Under his tenure, countless people were mistreated.
